How are the Carbon Fiber Tubes connected to the metal parts?

As the basic product of carbon fiber products, carbon fiber tubes are widely used in various fields such as aerospace, mechanical equipment, and medical equipment. Carbon fiber tubes are often used as load-bearing structural parts during use, and will be connected with metal parts.

Common ways to connect carbon fiber tubes and metal parts include: glued connection, mechanical connection, hybrid connection, pre-embedded, etc.

1. Gluing
The bonding of the Carbon Fiber Tube is to use epoxy structural glue to connect the carbon fiber tube and the parts. It should be noted that the surface impurities need to be removed when the bonding is carried out. The latter can also be used to polish the latter and use chemical reagents to improve the surface roughness , It can consolidate the connection, and has the advantages of fewer parts, light structure, high connection efficiency, fatigue resistance, vibration reduction, and corrosion resistance. Carbon fiber tube is not metal, but conductive. When it uses structural glue and metal connection, the chemical corrosion path of the two materials is blocked, which can achieve the effect of anti-corrosion.

2. Mechanical connection
The connection point of the mechanical connection can transmit a larger load, which is convenient for disassembly and assembly, inspection and maintenance, and ensures the safe and effective use of the structure. However, carbon fiber has high hardness and is a difficult-to-process material, and there are certain difficulties in mechanical processing. The mechanical connection of carbon fiber includes threaded connection and rivet connection. The threaded connection can be divided into bolt connection, screw connection, set screw connection and so on. This method can transfer large loads, has good peeling resistance, allows assembly after disassembly, is less affected by the environment, and has no residual stress generated during bonding and curing. The disadvantage is that the weight increases and the stress is concentrated.

3. Hybrid connection
is to use mechanical connection and glue connection at the same time when making the connection, so that the connection between the carbon fiber tube and the metal part is closer, and the product is more durable.

4. Pre-embedded

Pre-embedding is when carbon fiber pipes and carbon fiber products are laminated with prepreg, the metal parts are placed on the reserved position of the prepreg, and then put into the mold together for heating and pressure curing.
